'All At Sea' Gansey Sock - designed by Helen Birch for Stitches & Cream
The ‘Gansey’ stitch originated in the 18th Century and is very closely associated with fishermen and sailors.
The gansey was traditionally knitted by Cornish fisherwives and their daughters with the combination of stitches
(symbolising anchors, ropes and ladders) designed to add warmth and thickness to protect their loved ones against the
elements of the sea.
These socks introduce Gansey-style textures and shadow wrap heels with a spiral toe.
You can choose if you want a stocking stitch foot for ease, or a traditional Gansey pattern down the instep if you prefer.
