About us

Sandra and Jane are sisters who have been sewing and knitting most of their lives. Taught by their mum at an early age they have gone on to try lots of new skills and techniques, and know the joy that comes with completing a handmade project or garment.

Making and creating is still a priority and they both try to fit time into their busy day to make sure they can feed their addiction and enjoy the benefits of making!

Owners of Stitches and Cream

Family in Falmouth

Their family history is closely associated with Falmouth, and they are both local and involved in the community. Their grandfather Cecil was the tug master in the town for many years; and their uncles and sons have been, and are, proud boat owners and Falmouth lifeboat crew members. Their grandparents owned and run the Star and Garter pub for many years, just up the road from where their store is today, and their mum was 1 of 9 children who grew up in Falmouth. In fact the sisters have 27 first cousins! That’s a lot of cousins!

A business is born

The idea for Stitches and Cream came, as most good business ideas start, after a conversation over a cup of tea at the kitchen table. There may have been several biscuits involved too!

Sandra wanted to pursue her dream of opening a sewing shop and Jane had independently been thinking about leaving her job in London to start a knitting and embroidery business. The domain name was already purchased and, as luck would have it, a retail shop became available on the Old High Street in Falmouth at the same time, which seemed like serendipity. Stitches and Cream HQ was born.

An ideal setting

Several back-breaking months of hard work later they opened their store in Feb 2019. Both share a vision to create a stitching haven where people can find a collection of beautiful, contemporary, good quality products,  coupled with good service, and all brought together in a vibrant, light and welcoming space. Somewhere where everyone feels welcome and can experience the pleasure and satisfaction that comes with producing their own unique handmade items and meeting like minded crafty people.

The Old High Street in Falmouth is the ideal setting for their vision to become a reality.
